My adventures started With Christmas holidays. For me it was first year to be away from my home , family and friends. As in Craiova it was still warm I decided to feel the winter and go to the Mountains . Carpathian Mountains stretched in the middle of Romania are the second-longest mountain range in Europe, with it’s astonishing views and landscapes. So we booked train tickets , hostel , packed our backpacks and put all our warm clothes and we were ready to start exploring the most beautiful region of Romania.
The plan was like this to visit Brasov, Sinaia and Bran. After 6 hours in train finally we arrived in Brasov, checked in hotel and that’s where the adventure started. Luckily for me the city was covered with a beautiful snow. We went walking around the city. I discovered that this city is the mix of gothic, baroque and renaissance architecture. Most impressive part for me was the breathtaking view from the Tower, medieval buildings covered with snow, you could see in the middle of the city big Christmas tree with beautiful decorations, the air was rich with winter jasmine and cold, and as it was getting darker grew even colder. First day was full of new experiences, emotions and discoveries.
On Second day we went to Sinaia. This is a small and beautiful city inside the mountains. No matter where you look you see big proud mountains covered with snow. On our way to Peles Castle snow flurries began to fall and at the same time cold wind started to blow , road went through the forest, sound from waterfall was coming deep from the woods. We passed small booths full of souvenirs and finally on the hill we saw the fascinating castle. Peles Castle was summer residence for Romanian kings , but now it’s the museum. Whole castle and yard is full of statues , and inside it looked like you are back in time, because there was a lot of vintage furniture, beautiful paintings of famous artists and of course old combat weapons from different countries.
Next day was for Bran Castle commonly known as Dracula’s Castle, actually that place is just for tourist. Vlad Tepes never lived in this castle and because from his actual castle in Walachia is left just ruins, he was somehow associated to bran and they decided to make this castle more attractive for tourists and of course this bestseller novel was the best idea. But we should make the distinction between the historic reality and the character from Dracula.
Our trip finished with this and we were back to our home and back to our lovely friends. New year’s eve was coming, I was so excited to make some traditional food and sweets, of course I missed them so much. Actually it was international evening because we all prepared different dishes from our countries and that night was full of surprises joy and excitement. I realized that I am the part of something great that’s called volunteering.
